Guidelines for the Gareth Williams Award

 

Purpose
This award, to be known as “The Gareth Williams Award” is for the best scientific paper presentation at an IRG Annual Meeting, and is sponsored by Arxada Wood Protection, USA.

Dedication
This award honors Dr Gareth Williams, a respected scientist in the field of wood protection, who was an active IRG member since 1998, Section leader and Chair of Section 3 (Wood Protecting Chemicals) during 2001-2004.

Eligibility
The award of USD 1500,00 and a plaque will be given by Arxada Wood Protection to a student participant at the Annual Meeting closing ceremony for the best oral presentation.
The student needs to show that at the time of the Annual Meeting or during the previous year, she/he was actively enrolled in a recognized educational institution.

Evaluation
The presentation at the Annual Meeting will be evaluated by the IRG Scientific Programme Committee, who will review all papers presented at the Annual meeting. The presentations will be judged on the organization of the scientific material, the quality of the presentation (the clarity and the delivery of technical information), the scientific value and the impact of the results/findings on a given topic/problem/issue in the field of wood protection.

Awarding Ceremony
The plaque for the award will be given every year at the last Plenary session of the Annual Meeting, and presented to the winner by a person designated by the Scientific Programme Committee. The cheque, in USD, will be sent to the recipient by mail from Arxada Wood Protection soon after the award ceremony.
