IRG57 Special Sessions
This session will explore the use of bamboo and other non-wood materials in construction. Topics may
include:
- Structural properties and processing techniques of bamboo
- Potential of non-wood materials (e.g., grasses, palm, straw, hemp) for building applications
- Protection treatments and durability performance
- Opportunities and challenges in utilizing local resources
This session will focus on the increasing use of plantation-grown timber and the challenges and
opportunities it presents. Key topics include:
- Physical and mechanical properties of plantation timbers
- Enhancement through modification technologies (e.g., thermal, chemical treatments)
- Application and effectiveness of wood protection methods
- Sustainability and life cycle assessment of modified plantation wood
