Keynote 1

An Overview of Japanese Wood Protection Technology

Dr. Makoto Kiguchi
Professor of Nihon University
Vice President of the Japan Wood Protection Association (JWPA)

Abstract

Most of the protected wood materials in Japan were used for wooden housing. Recently, new areas of demand for wood have been developing, such as exterior wooden materials and large-scale building materials such as mass timber. These wood materials are required to have higher performance in terms of durability, weather resistance, and dimensional stability. In my lecture, I will introduce the technologies developed in Japan's wood protection field to meet these demands.

Keynote 2

Wood Protection in the Tropics: A Necessity in the Face of Climate Change and Rising Demand for Wood Products Consumption.

Dr M. Nurudeen Iddrisu
Director of Division of Trade and Industry
ITTO (International Tropical Timber Organization)

Abstract

With the rising demands for forest products due to population growth and continuous expansion of tropical countries’ economies, the need for judicious use of forest products in the advent of climate change becomes more crucial to protect and improve the use of forest products for longer services. My talk will highlight the state of global markets for tropical timber consumption and the need for tropical timber producing countries to find a sustainable and optimum use of timber products in-country to serve the needs of the people and for future generations.
