Towards a Circular Economy for Wood Protection

The wood protection industry is facing increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact and adopt more sustainable practices. A circular economy approach offers a promising pathway to achieving these goals. This special session will explore the concept of a circular economy for wood protection, focusing on key topics such as carbon accounting, end-of-life issues, reuse, and recycling. The session will also feature case studies from around the world that demonstrate how the wood protection industry is successfully implementing circular economy principles.

Potential topics include:

  • To provide an overview of the circular economy concept and its application to the wood protection industry
  • To discuss the challenges and opportunities of adopting a circular economy approach of using post-consumer wood, recycled wood
  • CO2-neutral chemical industry and how the wood protection research could be part of this effort via bio-renewables
  • To explore case studies of circular economy initiatives in the wood protection industry
